AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS

 

Since 2000:

  • 2011
    • Awarded the Virginia Thurston Landscape Design Award (a regional award with one applicant chosen from each of the six New England states) for the creation of two perennial gardens on the town green (Field Park). The project was cited for “using good design for the public benefit.” Members planted and maintain these gardens.
  • 2007
    • Sponsored Sue O’Reilly (Williamstown Elementary School teacher) for the Patricia H. Dennett Scholarship for Massachusetts teachers. She was awarded a $1000 scholarship toward her master’s degree program.
  • 2006
    • Awarded the President’s Bowl by the Garden Club Federation of MA, Inc. for the Club’s rejuvenation of the Field Park Garden.
    • Received a “Let Freedom Ring” civic development grant of $500 for Field Park Garden from the Principal Financial Group through the National Garden Club and the Garden Club Federation of MA, Inc.
    • Sponsored Caroline Scully for the Margaret Bent Patterson Scholarship. She was awarded the scholarship.
  • 2005
    • Planted a disease-resistant Elm Tree at the Williamstown Elementary School.
    • Established non-profit status for the Club under the aegis of the Garden Club Federation of MA, Inc.
  • 2004
    • Received the Bay State Flower Show Award for our December standard flower show entry “250 Years of Holidays”, and the Club of Distinction Award from the Garden Club Federation of MA, Inc. for our educational programs.
    • Received a certificate of appreciation from the National Garden Clubs for participation in the National awards program.
  • 2003
    • Celebrated the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Williamstown Garden Club.
    • Donated an information kiosk at the head of the new Linear Park Extension Trail in celebration of Williamstown’s 250th birthday.
    • Participated in honoring WGC’s past President Barbara Barnett on her 90th birthday with the donation of a bench on the Linear Park Extension Trail.
  • 2002
    • Established the Alberta Normandeau Memorial Lecture (an annual lectureship).
  • 2001
    • Awarded to Jessica Yorzinski (a Williamstown student) the Harold T. Bent Scholarship.
    • Awarded a Yearbook Certificate of Merit for our 2000 Yearbook by the Garden Club Federation of MA, Inc.
  • 2000
    • Awarded the Bay State Flower Show Award, the Arrangers of Marblehead Flower Show Award for Staging, and the Jane Porter State Flower Show Award for our 1999 Flower Show entry, “The Century” by the Garden Club Federation of MA, Inc.
    • Awarded Award #5 Standard Flower Show (Purple Rosette) in the Flower Show Non-Competitive category by The National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc.
    • Hosted the Massachusetts Gardens on Tour 2000. Visitors from all across the country toured our Williamstown gardens.
