WILLIAMSTOWN GARDEN CLUB
General Membership Meeting October 4, 2014
The meeting was held on Saturday, October 4 at 11 am at the Milne Library and was open to the public. The business portion was called to order by Dianne Glick, Vice President, and consisted entirely of announcements. There were about 40 people in attendance, with about one third from the community.
Announcements
Dianne Glick, Beautification Chair, invited members to remove or take cuttings from the large begonias in the Hopper Road containers. These are beautiful but will be hit soon by a frost. Members will continue to deadhead on the bridge until the frost. Those responsible for barrels/containers can decide themselves how long they wish to continue to maintain these. There will be a mass email to notify all members when the bridge boxes and town containers and barrels should be cleared. All materials should be placed in black garbage bags, left by the containers and these will be removed by the cemetery crew. Dianne announced that there would be a meeting of all bridge and container volunteers at some point in the future to discuss container plant ideas for next year. Everyone was appreciative that the time-consuming petunias were not included this year.
Elaine Neely announced that the azaleas on the north end of Field Park had been replaced and the fall foliage is looking lovely. Fall clean-up day there will be after the town has done its clean-up. Similar activities will take place in the Milne Library garden and emails will be sent about each with dates and times for needed assistance.
Program
The business portion of the meeting was very short due to the public’s presence. It was followed at 11:20 by an extremely entertaining and humorous power point presentation by Neil Sanders, “Gardening is Murder” who calls himself the “Principal Undergardener.” Only those attending would understand why! His blog is at ThePrincipalUndergardener.blogspot.com. The program ended at 12:10 and was followed by delicious little tea sandwiches and liquid refreshment.
