WGC Meeting Minutes – August 9, 2016
On Tuesday, August 9th the Williamstown Garden Club met at the lower room of St. John’s Church at 1:00pm.
Co-President Dianne Glick called the meeting to order and began by thanking the Program committee of Linda Conway, Claudia Ellet & Anne Tiffany for arranging the meeting and speaker. Thanks also went out to Patricia Siskind, Stephanie Johnson, Judy Summers, Maria Siskind and Doris McNabb for providing the refreshments. Hospitality Chair Patricia Siskind indicated that there are still Hospitality openings for the upcoming September meeting.
Marilyn Faulkner informed the group that there were two new members, MJ Downing and Wanda Bubriski that had joined the Club. Neither were present at the meeting so we are looking forward to welcoming them at a future meeting. Eja Heekin announced the upcoming Potting Party on Tuesday, August 30th at 10:00am. Help is needed by a few participants one hour earlier to assist with set up.
The location will once again be the Conforti’s home on West Main St. Eja requested that members bring an interesting plant they have tended or purchased to insure a good supply of plants for the sale which takes place on Friday , September 9th at 10:00 on the Paresky steps at Williams College. Nice pots are also very helpful.
Sue Metzner reported for Civic Beautification that all plantings were doing well and seem to be bug free. She encouraged tenders of the containers to trim back the green vine to allow the begonias more room to flourish.
Sue also mentioned that she had a message from Roberta Hershon who runs a program, “Hope in Bloom”, and is looking for suggestions of local gardens that she might feature in upcoming articles. A member suggested she contact Ilona Bell whose garden is known as one of the area’s top gardens. Sue will follow up on that.
Elaine Neely indicated Field Park was also doing well and emphasized how thankful we are for the town watering system. The group agreed we couldn’t plant all we do without the generous assistance of the town watering.
Linda Conway introduced speaker, Barbara Robinson, who spoke on “Rosemary Verey and other Gardening Legends”. Her slide presentation gave a wonderful insight to the life and gardening endeavors of Rosemary Verey which was enjoyed by all. Following her talk Barbara welcomed questions and signed copies of her books.
You can find more information on Barbara Robinson’s website :
The next meeting of the WGC will be Tuesday, September 13th at 10:00am at the Clark Art Lunder Center. This meeting is open to the public and members are encouraged to bring guests.
Respectfully Submitted, Dianne Glick. Co-President
