Williamstown Garden Club
Minutes for meeting on August 8th, 2017
The meeting was called to order at 1:00pm at the Harper Center in Williamstown by Program Committee member Dianne Glick.
There were no guests of members to be introduced, however there were 4 members of The Council for Aging present.
Members thanked for providing the meeting refreshments included Susan Hyde, Karen Pellegrini, Judy Fitzgerald, Anne Tiffany, Susan Metzner and Maria Siskind.
Maria mentioned that Hospitality Chair Patricia Siskind is looking for members available to provide refreshments for the September meeting.
Susan Hyde requested assistance with the Post Office pots for the upcoming weekend and Sue Metzner agreed to fill in.
Eja Heekin gave an update on the Fall Plant Sale taking place on the Paresky steps at Williams on Friday, Sept 8th from 10:00am until 2:00pm. She included that there will be an advance potting party on Tuesday, August 29th at the Siskind home at 10:00 am.
Corresponding Secretary Anne Tiffany reported that the Club had received thank you notes from the Williamstown Fire Station for the flower plantings in front of the station, The Clark Art for our $100 donation to their “Bee” Program and the Williamstown Historical Museum for the planters to enhance their new sign.
Anne also sent a sympathy note on behalf of the Club to Sherelle Mills for the loss of her husband Thomas.
Horticulture Chair Kathie Jones requested volunteers to present “Hort Shorts” ( 5-7 minute horticulture snippets) for the October10th Pot Luck Luncheon. She will be making phone calls if no volunteers come forward.
The meeting was followed by speaker, Lawrie Nickerson and her assistant Karen from Hay Berry Farm in Hoosick Falls, NY. Their presentation titled ” Dried Flowers: Fresh to Fabulous was very informative. The farm produces many varieties of flowers and fruits which you can pick yourself or purchase at the farm. Also available are honey, lavender, herbs and pumpkins. Karen demonstrated how the dried flower wands, braids and other arrangements were created.
Following their demonstration a large bouquet of flowers was divided into three raffle
giveaways to some lucky attendees.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 12 at 1:00pm at Sweetwood. Ben Glick will be giving a slideshow with commentary on Birding in the USA.
This meeting is open to the public.
