WILLIAMSTOWN GARDEN CLUB
August 13, 2018 GENERAL MEETING
1:00 P.M. Harper Center, Williamstown
1. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: President Karen Pellegrini called the meeting to order at 1:05 pm.
2. WELCOME: Karen welcomed 19 members and 9 guests to this meeting, and gave special thanks to member Rita Watson for today’s presentation.
3. MINUTES: The minutes from the May 8 meeting have been posted on the website and sent by email to all members. On June 12, the Club enjoyed a Garden Tour and picnic lunch in Adams. On July 10, the Club enjoyed a guided tour of the Berkshire Botanical Garden with picnic lunch. No minutes were taken at these two events.
4. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Karen provided a short update on Club activities.
a. Thanks are given to the Field Park crew for all their time and efforts, and in particular for helping with the Sarah Tenney Osborne Memorial Garden at the Milne Library.
b. The annual houseplant sale is coming up soon on Friday, September 7 at Williams College. Thanks to everyone who attended the “succulent planting party” at Karen’s house on August 1; over 200 succulents are planted and ready. Houseplants are needed and attractive containers for this sale; please bring them to the planting party which will be held on August 29 at 9 am. Volunteers are needed for the planting party; please RSVP to Maria Siskind as lunch will be provided.
c. On Sunday, August 19 the Club will join the Hay Day Fair in South Williamstown; volunteers are needed.
d. Our next meeting will be on September 11 at 1 pm at the Milne Library with guest speaker Neil Sanders on the topic Gardening will Kill You. The slate of officers for 2019 will be presented with proposed changes to the Club bylaws.
5. CORRESPONDING SECRETARY’S REPORT: Anne Tiffany gave a short report summarizing recent correspondence. Thank you notes were sent for the gift of $5,000 received from the Alice Shaver Foundation, for the sponsors of the June Adams garden tour and gifts sent to and on behalf of recently deceased members Patti Brundage ($50 to St. John’s) and Gigi Douglass ($50 to McKee Botanical). Thank yous were received from the Williamstown Historical Museum and the Williamstown Fire Department.
6. NEW BUSINESS: Member Rita Watson was introduced and instructed the group on various methods of flower arranging, including both hand-held and structured arrangements. Members participated in creating their own arrangements with the flowers provided by Rita.
7. NEXT MEETING DATE: Tuesday, September 11, 2018, 1 pm at Milne Library.
8. ADJOURNMENT: The formal meeting was adjourned at 2 pm and refreshments enjoyed.
