Williamstown Garden Club
Meeting notes for July 12 , 2016 Meeting
On Tuesday, July 12 th 17 Williamstown Garden Club members participated in a “Field Trip” meeting to the Gilded Age Style estate, Naumkeag in Stockbridge, Ma.
Carpooling began at The Williams Inn for the trip south on a beautiful warm and sunny day.
Upon arrival bag lunches along with beverages, fruit and delicious chocolate chip cookies provided by the club were enjoyed on the terrace.
A brief meeting was held where Dianne welcomed members and Sue Metzner gave a Civic Beautification report. Other than some annoying Japanese beetles on the zinnias the flowers and gardens are all growing quite well.
Lunch was followed by a guided tour of the house, once the summer home of first Joseph and Caroline Choate and then their daughter, Mabel Choate. Beautiful original furnishings successfully give you the feeling that ” they just walked out the door”. The guides were very informative and provided many historical references describing the life of the various Choate family members.
After visiting the house the group continued on a tour of the newly renovated gardens, including the beautifully restored Chinese garden. The Fletcher Steel designed gardens are beyond expectations and reflect the incredible vistas that surround the estate. Our guide, Ren, was both informative and humorous making for a lovely walk around the property.
Many thanks go out to Linda Conway from the Program Committee for arranging such a wonderful day as well as providing dessert. Dianne Glick brought along beverages.
