The Williamstown Garden Club serves the Williamstown community through its mission of Civic Beautification. This work is visible each growing season as members work to plant and maintain flowers and plants at numerous locations throughout town.

Williamstown Garden Club – November 8, 2016

A GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING was held on Tuesday, November 8 at 1 pm in the auditorium at Sweetwood. The business portion was called to order by Anne Tiffany, Program Coordinator. Four guests of members were introduced.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Elaine Neely reported that there will be a second clean-up at Field Park on Friday, November 11 at 1:30. Only four members showed up to help on November 2, thus requiring a second clean-up day for the west end of the park. Elaine had coordinated with the Town for removal of the leaves so there was no “bagging” necesssary this year. She thanked those who had cleaned up the bridge plus the containers and barrels around town.

Anne Tiffany reminded everyone of the Annual Meeting and Luncheon set for December 13 at the Williams Inn. An email will go out shortly regarding reservations, meal selection and cost. Kathy McKnight said that membership dues should also be paid at that time. Treasurer Robin Clutz will email information regarding the dues.

Maria Siskind thanked those who had brought food and drink to enjoy following the meeting.

Carolyn Umlauf reported on the Greens Workshop set for Tuesday, December 6, 1 – 2:30, at the Harper Center. Members were encouraged to attend and assist the seniors with their baskets as well as construct the centerpieces for the Club’s Annual Meeting and Luncheon. Carolyn asked that anyone having extra small baskets to bring them for use by the seniors. Circular containers have been ordered for the Club’s table centerpieces. Carolyn also requested that members bring unusual greens, such as lemon thread cyprus, to the meeting. Pachysandra and hydrangea will also work well in the table centerpieces. Everyone was reminded to bring their garden clippers to the workshop.

The business portion of the meeting was adjourned at 1:15.

PROGRAM: Anne Tiffany introduced former Garden Club member, Rita Watson, for a “Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas Flower Arranging” session. Rita constructed two Thanksgiving pieces and one Christmas wreath and one Christmas arrangement for the group. All of the arrangements were raffled off to members at the end. Rita offered many insights and suggestions about working with dried materials and shared thoughts on what has worked well for her. Rita is a wonderful teacher, and the members enjoyed her easy, humorous presentation.

The program was followed by delicious fall refreshments.
