Minutes – Williamstown Garden Club – 11/14/17 – Harper’s Center
The meeting was called to order by Elaine Neely, who introduced the guests.
Robin Clutz, treasurer, reported that the budget for 2018 will be submitted to the annual meeting on December 12, 2017, at The Williams Inn for approval.
Susan Pike made a suggestion that the date for annual dues be moved to January 31, and that there will be 2 reminders sent to members to bring their dues to the annual meeting in December. This change is to facilitate Sue and Kathy’s work to ready the club handbook. Dues are $35. for active members and $55. for sustainers. If you want to send your dues by mail, the WGC P.O. Box is now 85, Williamstown, Ma. 01267.
When you send or bring dues, she asked all members to review their addresses and phone
numbers in the current handbook. In this way, any necessary corrections for the 2018
handbook will be accurate and timely.
Anne Tiffany, the Correspondence Secretary, read a note from Dianne Glick, thanking the club for her honorary membership and the membership we purchased for her in the
Naples Florida Botanical Garden.
Eja Heekin asked for help creating a map of the sites we administer in the town and a new, more colorful poster for the Williamstown Garden Club table at the annual Holiday
Walk.
Pat Siskind thanked the members who brought refreshments for the meeting.
Elaine Neely reminded members that the Holiday Greens workshop at the Harper’s Center will be on December 5, at 1: 00, and we need members to help Harper residents and members create centerpieces. Please bring clippers and gloves.
The Annual Meeting will be Tuesday, December 12 at 12:00 at The Williams Inn. Guests are welcome.
Elaine introduced the 2 speakers from the Berkshire Botanical Garden. Christine Caccamo, senior gardener at the BBG, is in charge of propagating thousands of seedlings each spring as well as starting bulbs for the BBG spring bulb show. She gave us a list of tips for forcing New England hardy bulbs as well as South African tender bulbs. Dottie Lou Kratt has been with the BBG for over 9 years. She is the owner of Northeast Native Seeds, and gives workshops on gardening with native plants, propagation protocols and seed collecting, and she demonstrated ways you could use succulents in interesting ways for decorating. You can reach her with questions or seed requests at dlkratt@fairpoint,.net.
Respectfully submitted, Joan Wright, Recording Secretary
