The Williamstown Garden Club serves the Williamstown community through its mission of Civic Beautification. This work is visible each growing season as members work to plant and maintain flowers and plants at numerous locations throughout town.

Williamstown Garden Club Meeting – Minutes, 9/12/17

The meeting was called to order by Dianne Glick, at Sweetwood, who thanked members for bringing refreshments.

Marilyn Faulkner, Membership Chair, introduced a new member, Sue Monteil. Sue Metzner, Civic Beautification Co-Chair, reported that the bridge boxes have gotten mold – too much watering plus abundant rain this summer. She will let the membership know when town watering will end.

Elaine Neely, Civic Beautification Co-Chair reported that she and her Thursday team have planted 60 new iris plants and will plant the remaining 30 soon.

Elaine also reported that there has been a program change and the Nov. 14 th meetingspeaker will be the bulb forcing specialist from the Berkshire Botanical Garden.

Anne Tiffany, Corresponding Secretary, reported the excellent results from the Fall Plant Sale. The total was $1984. Thanks to Eja Heekin and Margo Bowden, the sale coordinators, and Pat and Maria Siskind for letting us use their carriage house, for making the event a success. Special thanks to Karen Pellegrini who spent the summer collecting small pots and planting them with wonderful succulents which were very popular with the students. She suggested that all of us start working on similar containers because they really sell! This is one of the only years when we have had no plants left over.

Anne Tiffany also reported that WGC has received a check for $500. from the Williamstown Grange for a talk given to them by Elaine Neely. We need to send Elaine on more of these assignments!

The Pot Luck luncheon will be Oct. 10 th at 12:00 noon in the lower room at St. John’s.

Dianne them introduced Dr. Ben Glick, her husband, who shared his wonderful photographs of birds that he has taken on expeditions to Africa, Costa Rica, India, California, Florida and New England. We enjoyed having a number of Sweetwood residents join us for the talk.

Sue Metzner presented Dianne Glick with an honorary membership in the club for all her work on our behalf over the years. In addition, Sue also presented Dianne with a family membership in the Naples, Florida Botanical Garden.

Respectfully submitted, Joan Wright, Recording Secretary
